2007 WORLD CUP CLASSICS SETS RECORD FOR MOST ATHLETES & COUNTRIES TO COMPETE

CARSON, CALIFORNIA - (Thursday, January 18, 2007)
More than 290 athletes from over 50 teams and 35 countries will compete this weekend at the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Track Cycling World Cup Classics, January 19-21, 1007.  The record-high number of competitors tops the previous two World Cups in Carson at The Home Depot Center.

New countries participating this year include Ireland, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Scotland and Uzbekistan.  Competing this year for the first time in a World Cup is USA World Champion Sarah Hammer's own OUCH Pro Cycling Team.

World Cup races are amongst the most prestigious on the UCI calendar, providing riders and countries the opportunity to qualify for positions in the upcoming World Championships March 29-April 1 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.  After stops in Sydney and Moscow, the Los Angeles event is the third of the four-race World Cup series in the 2006-07 season.

The three-day event includes five sessions:
Friday, January 19
Session 1 - 10:00 a.m.
Session 2 - 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, January 20
Session 1 - 10:00 a.m.
Session 2 - 6:00 p.m.

Sunday, January 21
Session 1 - 9:50 a.m.
