StubHub Center announces 15 events to commemorate 15th Anniversary
To celebrate StubHub Center’s 15th year, the venue will host 15 special events in 2018 to commemorate the early history of one of Los Angeles’ premier sporting venues.
Since its opening in 2003, the venue has welcomed over 16 million fans inside its gates, hosting a mix of soccer, football, tennis, boxing and rugby contests in addition to concerts and other international competitions. A world-class training base for top athletes around the world, over 20,000 athletes have trained at StubHub Center in its 15-year history.
“We’re very excited to commemorate the incredible history that StubHub Center has achieved in its first 15 years,” said StubHub Center General Manager Katie Pandolfo. “We are looking forward to celebrating StubHub Center’s 15th Anniversary as we honor our remarkable first chapter.”
Most notably since its opening, StubHub Center has become one of North America’s most iconic soccer stadiums, hosting 6 MLS Cups and over 500 soccer games. More than 800 LA Galaxy goals have been scored at the venue.
“We are honored to have played a part in making StubHub Center North America’s finest soccer stadium,” said LA Galaxy President Chris Klein. “Many remarkable soccer moments have taken place at StubHub Center and we’re certain that many more are on the way.”
With over $46 million invested into StubHub Center since its completion 15 years ago, the venue has remained a premier home of sport in Los Angeles since its grand opening.
StubHub Center is a 125-acre site on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) in Carson, Calif. StubHub Center features an 8,000-seat tennis stadium, a 25,462-seat stadium for soccer, football and other athletic competitions and outdoor concerts; a 5,000-seat facility for track & field and a 2,450-seat indoor Velodrome – the VELO Sports Center – for track cycling. StubHub Center is home to Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy, the five-time MLS Cup Champions. StubHub Center is also home of the Los Angeles Chargers, United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) High Performance Training Center and the national team training headquarters for the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF).
The 15th Anniversary of StubHub Center will be highlighted on Saturday, June 9 when the LA Galaxy host Real Salt Lake in a match presented by StubHub. 14 additional events will celebrate StubHub Center’s 15th Anniversary in 2018, those events are highlighted below. At the match, fans in attendance will receive commemorative 15th Anniversary postcards. Tickets to that game are available for purchase here.
The 15 dedicated events include a variety of community programming and series from the LA Galaxy Foundation among other special events at StubHub Center. The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation (LAGF), the official non-profit of the LA Galaxy, strives to serve the community in which the team works and plays. Through soccer programing that promotes inclusion for all athletes, education opportunities, and a strong spirit of volunteerism, LAGF is proud to facilitate over 150 events annually and has donated over $3.5 million to support the local Los Angeles community.
Thursday, May 3 – LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Signing Day
Joining forces with the Special Olympics Southern California (SOSC) Unified Soccer Team Exchange program, the LA Galaxy Foundation will announce 20 players in a special day at the Galaxy’s home, StubHub Center. After a photo shoot and press conference to officially announce their signing, 2018 LA Galaxy SOSC Unified team will dress in their new LA Galaxy gear and take StubHub Center’s main pitch with LA Galaxy defender Daniel Steres.
Saturday, May 5 – Gennady “GGG” Golovkin vs. Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan
One of the world’s biggest boxing talents, World Middleweight Champion and boxing superhero Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), from Karaganda, Kazakhstan, boxing's longest-reigning world champion, will return to the ring against two-time world title challenger Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan (36-3-1, 21 KOs), from Glendale, Calif.
Friday, May 25 – LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified vs. LA Galaxy Academy
Pillars of the LA Galaxy organization will come together in a bit of friendly competition following the Galaxy’s first California Clasico of the season against San Jose Earthquakes on May 25 at StubHub Center. Following the MLS rivalry match, the LA Galaxy Special Olympics Unified Team will make their 2018 season debut in a bit of friendly competition against the Boys’ and Girls’ LA Galaxy Academy.
Wednesday, May 30 – LA Galaxy Women’s Leadership Series
The LA Galaxy Foundation will host their 3rd edition of the Women’s Leadership Series with this installment billed as the Young Professionals Brand Building & Networking Seminar. An executive leadership panel will look to inspire discussion and action for women in the sports and entertainment industry. The Women’s Leadership Series will precede LA Galaxy’s match against FC Dallas.
Friday, June 1 – Summer Concert Series: Poncho Sánchez
The free Summer Concert Series will kick off when Mexican-American, Los Angeles raised latin jazz star Poncho Sánchez takes center stage at StubHub Center.
Saturday, June 2 – Women’s Leadership Series: Women’s Soccer Seminar – High School Girls
LA Galaxy Foundation’s Women’s Leadership Series take a narrower focus on young women in soccer, with a night designed to inspire the future of the sport. The event will precede LA Galaxy II’s fixture against local rival Orange County SC, to take place at StubHub Center’s Track & Field Stadium.
Saturday, June 9 – StubHub Center 15th Anniversary Game: LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake Presented by StubHub
On June 7, 2003, the LA Galaxy opened up StubHub Center with a 2-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. 15 years later, the team celebrates StubHub Center’s 15th year of soccer in a summer night matchup with Western Conference rival Real Salt Lake. This match will be Presented by venue Naming Rights partner, StubHub.
Sunday, June 10 – Community Clinic Series: America Scores LA for Palms Middle School at StubHub Center
Palms Middle School of Los Angeles will visit StubHub Center for a special day, as they train like Galaxy players after going on a tour of StubHub Center, all provided by the LA Galaxy Foundation.
Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7 – LA Galaxy Youth Development Camp at StubHub Center
In one of many community events put on by LA Galaxy in 2018, the LA Galaxy Youth Development Camp will welcome kids across Los Angeles to StubHub Center and its 1.2 million square feet of soccer field for two days of training like the LA Galaxy.
Friday, July 6 – Summer Concert Series: DW3
The free Summer Concert Series at StubHub Center rolls on with DW3, a Los Angeles band mixing R&B jazz with latin soul.
Friday, Aug. 3 – Summer Concert Series: Rakim
One of the most skilled and influential MCs of all time will make his way to StubHub Center for this installment of the Summer Concert series. A member of Eric. B & Rakim, his hand in the platinum album Paid in Full secured his place in hip hop history as one of the best to ever do it.
Thursday, Aug. 30 – Galaxy Giving: Shoes That Fit
Partnering with Shoes That Fit, a Los Angeles nonprofit tackling one of the most visible signs of poverty among children, LA Galaxy players and staff will join the LA Galaxy Foundation to deliver brand new shoes to local elementary school students.
Thursday, Aug. 30 – Monday, Sept. 3: LA Fleet Week and Tour of StubHub Center
LA Galaxy Foundation and StubHub Center will host men and women of the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard during this week, with an itinerary of activities to show the two organizations’ support of the armed forces.
Friday, Sept. 7 – Summer Concert Series
The free Summer Concert Series wraps up with a grand finale at StubHub Center.
