LA GALAXY TO HOST NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION IN HOME OPENER, PRESENTED BY PECHANGA RESORT & CASINO: The LA Galaxy enters the 16th season in Major League Soccer as one of the teams to beat in the league. After finishing the regular season with the best record in MLS, the club acquired players including Juan Pablo Angel, Chad Barrett and Frankie Hejduk in the offseason. This month, the Galaxy will head into the community with a series of events as part of the Galaxy Caravan - Countdown to Kickoff which will begin on Mon., March 7 and conclude on Fri., March 11 with the 2011 LA Galaxy Luncheon presented by Herbalife, at the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live. Along with official Caravan partner adidas, the Galaxy will have players, staff, Miss LA Galaxy Court members and the Galaxy Street Team active throughout the week engaging with fans, the public and media in order to thank them for their support and to raise awareness for the start of the 2011 MLS season, including an autograph session at the Team LA Store at The Home Depot Center on Thurs., March 10 at 4:30 p.m. For more information, please go to www.lagalaxy.com/caravan
CHIVAS USA KICKS OFF 2011 MLS SEASON ON MARCH 19: As the offseason draws to a close, Chivas USA looks ahead to a pair of home games in March to start the 2011 Major League Soccer regular season. Under the leadership of new Head Coach Robin Fraser and with a new-look squad that includes Francisco Mendoza, Jimmy Conrad, Heath Pearce, Alejandro Moreno, and others, the Red-and-White are poised for a return to winning ways in 2011. First up for the club is the Season Opener against Omar Bravo and Sporting Kansas City on Sat., March 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. Just one week later, Chivas USA hosts the defending MLS Cup Champion Colorado Rapids, at 7:30 p.m. on Sat., March 26. 2011 GOLD CUP GROUPS AND SCHEDULES TO BE ANNOUNCED NEXT WEEK: The Home Depot Center will host the group stage matches of the 2011 CONCACAF Men's Gold Cup on June 6. The Gold Cup is a 12-nation championship for the CONCACAF region for teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean. U.S. YOUTH NATIONAL TEAMS HIT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER IN MARCH: With the full Women's National Team preparing for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany during camps and events across the United States and the world, The Home Depot Center will be busy in March hosting three women's youth national teams as the U.S. U-18 Women's National Team comes to camp from March 12-19, followed by the U.S. U-17 Women's National Team and the U-15 Girl's National Team, which will hold concurrent training camps from March 20-27. VELODROME HOSTS U.S., CANADA AND TRINIDAD & TOBAGO TEAM TRAINING: The national teams from the U.S., Canada and Trinidad & Tobago are training this month, ahead of the 2011 UCI Track Cycling World Championships in The Netherlands in the city of Apeldoorn, March 23-27. USA track cycling head coach Jamie Staff continues with national team training activity through the month, as does youth training programs for all skill levels. THE HOME DEPOT CENTER KICKS OFF SPRING FOUNDATION EVENTS: Throughout the months of March and April, The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation is hosting two events. First, the foundation is now taking applications for the 2011 Reading Garden Challenge, a joint initiative with the Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot. The Reading Garden Challenge invites elementary schools from Carson, Compton, Gardena, Long Beach, Lomita, Lynwood, Torrance and Beach cities to participate in the 2011 Reading Garden Challenge, a joint initiative of the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation, The Home Depot Center Chartable Foundation and The Home Depot. The Challenge encourages schools and students (grades K-5) to focus on Earth Day (April 22) by reading Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and creating posters based on (4) themes from the book for the opportunity to have a Reading Garden built at their school. In another joint initiative, the Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation are working together to present the fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt and Earth Day Celebration on Thurs., April 21, featuring an egg hunt, a visit from the Easter Bunny and LA Galaxy mascot Cozmo, plus Galaxy players and other activities and environmentally friendly games and tips.
