GALAXY HOST BLANCO, CHICAGO FIRE ON FRIDAY: The LA Galaxy close out the 2009 MLS regular season this month, playing a pair of home games at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy have not qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs since 2005, but they enter October in second place in the Western Conference and on the verge of one of the two guaranteed playoff berths that the conference receives. The month starts off with a bang as the Galaxy host Cuauhtemoc Blanco, Brian McBride and the Chicago Fire at The Home Depot Center on Friday, October 2. Both teams enter the game with identical 10-6-11 records and can take a massive step toward clinching a playoff spot with a win on Friday night. Prior to this game, the LA Galaxy Foundation will be hosting their annual clothing drive, at which the club will be collecting new or gently-used clothing and shoes, specifically warm, winter clothes, which will be donated to children and families in need. Bruce Arena's team closes out the regular season by hosting rival San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. This is the Galaxy's first home game of the year against San Jose and could go a long way in determining LA's postseason seeding heading into the MLS Cup Playoffs, which start one week later. The game against San Jose will also be Fan Appreciation Day at The Home Depot Center, with the club giving away a number of top sports memorabilia items, while also hosting auctions for a number of autographed items, including the official game-worn jerseys of each of the Galaxy's starting 11 players during that night's game. Tickets are on sale now for all remaining 2009 LA Galaxy regular season and postseason home games, with tickets starting at just $15.
