GALAXY PUSH FOR SUPPORTERS SHIELD IN FINAL MONTH OF REGULAR SEASON: With the best record in MLS, the return of David Beckham to pitch, a playoff berth clinched, and their sights set on winning the Supporters Shield, the LA Galaxy are primed to finish the regular season strong and enter the postseason in fine form. With Real Salt Lake only two points behind and FC Dallas four points back, a strong showing in October is crucial to the Galaxy’s hopes of ending the season with the best regular season record in the league. With only four regular season games remaining, the Galaxy will open the month at The Home Depot Center on Sun., Oct. 3 in the second leg of the Honda SuperClásico against Chivas USA. With a win or a draw, the Galaxy will win their third straight SuperClásico title and eliminate their rivals from postseason play. The team will then travel to Philadelphia to face the Union for the first time in Philadelphia on Thursday, Oct.7 at 5 p.m. (ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes). The Galaxy will then return to Southern California to finish out the season with two home games. On Sat., Oct. 16, the Galaxy will take on the Colorado Rapids at 7:30 p.m. During this game, the team will help with a league-wide campaign to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. The teams will play with a pink Jabulani ball in support of this cause. The Galaxy will be looking to sweep the Rapids this season after winning 1-0 on Colorado in May. Finally, the Galaxy will wrap up the regular season against a strong FC Dallas team on Sun., Oct. 24 at 5 p.m. Tickets for all of the remaining regular season and postseason games are on sale now, with tickets starting at just $20. CHIVAS USA HOSTS GALAXY IN SUPERCLÁSICO TO START OCTOBER: Chivas USA will host the LA Galaxy in the Honda SuperClásico at the beginning of the final month of MLS regular season action. The Red-and-White will face the LA Galaxy on Sun., Oct. 3 at 5:00 p.m., with Chivas USA looking to capture the trophy by overturning a 2-0 loss in the first meeting between the teams this year. Tickets for the match, starting at just $15, are available by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visiting www.cdchivasusa.com. After the SuperClásico, Chivas will return to action on Sat., Oct. 9, hosting Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m. on Breast Cancer Awareness Night at The Home Depot Center. Specially priced tickets are available, and a portion of the proceeds from the match will benefit local charitable organizations. The Red-and-White then travel for a pair of away games, first visiting the Seattle Sounders on Fri., Oct.15 at 8:00 p.m. in a match which will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes. The team will also visit the San Jose Earthquakes in the final week of the season, taking on the Northern California team on Wed., Oct. 20 at 7:00 p.m.; fans can watch on Prime Ticket and KWHY, and listen on W Radio 690 AM. The Red-and-White will close the regular season against the Chicago Fire on Sat., Oct. 23 at 8:00 p.m. on Fan Appreciation Night, with prizes, giveaways, and more to thank all the loyal Chivas USA supporters for the 2010 season. EL BICENTENARIO DE LA RAZA: The Home Depot Center will host 97.9 FM’s Latin concert, ‘El Bicentenario de La Raza’ on Sun., Oct. 17 at 2 p.m., featuring more than 15 artists scheduled to perform, including La Arrolladora, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Conjunto Primavera, Larry Hernandez, Montez de Durango and Robert Tapia. THE HOME DEPOT CENTER VELODROME TO HOST 2010 USA CYCLING ELITE NATIONALS: The Home Depot Center Velodrome is hosting the 2010 USA Track Cycling Elite National Championships, now through Sun., Oct 3, featuring the return of Southern Californian Sarah Hammer, who has been training in Switzerland for the past year. The first elite track national titles will be awarded today as the omniums wrap up with the scratch races and time trials. In addition to the omnium national titles, national champs will be crowned in the men’s kilometer time trial and the women’s 500-meter time trial. Tonight’s evening session will feature the men’s and women’s team pursuit. The event is free, and a complete competition schedule and list of athletes is available online at http://www.usacycling.org/. Later this month, the Canadian National Team will being it’s five-year training program at The Home Depot Center and will host its National Team trials Oct. 17-20. USTA TO HOST COACHES SYMPOSIUM: In addition to its regular programming, the USTA’s Coaching Education department will conduct a three-day symposium at the USTA Training Center-West at The Home Depot Center from October 27-29. The symposium will serve as a forum to present and discuss the USTA Coaching Philosophy and receive input from some of the top tennis coaches in the country. The symposium will consist of both on-court and classroom activities, and speakers will include USTA Director of Coaching Jose Higueras, USTA Senior Director of Talent Identification and Development Martin Blackman, and USTA Senior Manager of Strength & Conditioning/Sport Science Dr. Mark Kovacs. 1,000 KIDS TO TRICK-OR-TREAT AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER: The Los Angeles Galaxy and Home Depot Center Charitable Foundations will host the annual Treats N Suites Halloween Bash for 1,000 kids ages 2-10 on Fri., Oct. 29 from 4-5:30 p.m. The annual event provides trick-or-treating through the stadium’s event suites, decorated by Home Depot Center and LA Galaxy staff and players. The event also offers Halloween-themed activities, including bag decorating, jack-o-lantern coloring contest, costume parade and more. More information is available at homedepotcenter.com.
