As the world preps for the 2012 Paralympic Games, AEG Facilities' Multi-Sport Venue to add 'Paralympic' to its Olympic Training Site Designation

CARSON, CA (August 22, 2012) - The United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and AEG Facilities' The Home Depot Center jointly announced that the 125-acre multi-sport facility will add 'Paralympic' to its designation and will become an Official U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Site. The Carson-based facility received its original Olympic Training Site designation when it opened in 2003.

Since the facility's opening in 2003, the venue has been the training home, while hosting international competitions and events, associated with the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), United States Tennis Association (USTA) and USA Cycling and Para-cycling. In January, The Home Depot Center's indoor velodrome, the VELO Sports Center, hosted the 2012 UCI Para-cycling Track World Championships; the venue's first-ever Para-cycling competition and its first World Championships since 2004.

The USA Para-cycling National Team has been training in Carson since 2007, including the 16 athletes named to the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Cycling Team competing in London next week. In total, more than 50 Paralympic athletes have trained at the VELO Sports Center, averaging 50 training days per year.

The 2012 Paralympic Games open on Wed., Aug. 29 and run through Sept. 9. Coverage is available on the U.S. Paralympics YouTube Channel, as well as the NBC Sports Network throughout the Games.
