US SPRINT STARS WARINER, FELIX SET FOR adidas TRACK CLASSIC
CARSON, Calif. (April 13) - Jeremy Wariner and Allyson Felix, two of the brightest young stars in American track and field, are among the dozens of Olympic and World Championship medalists expected at the 2006 adidas Track Classic on May 21, organizers announced today.
The finals-only event will begin at 12:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center, on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills, and will be broadcast live on ESPN from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. PT. (4 p.m.-6 p.m. ET).
Wariner, 22, burst onto the scene at the 2004 Olympics when he led the US to a 1-2-3 sweep at 400 meters. He added the title of World Champion to his resume last year, with his 43.93 victory at the World Championships in Helsinki the fastest time in the world for 2005. At the Texas Relays last weekend, the former Baylor star posted a blistering 43.2 leg in the 4x400-meter relay.
For Felix, The Home Depot Center really is home, and a sweet one at that: the phenom ran the three fastest times in the world last year, and two of them were on this very track. Now 20, Felix was a five-time California state prep champion out of Los Angeles Baptist High School, and still lives and trains in Los Angeles. In 2004, Felix set the World Junior Record at 200 meters after winning an Olympic silver medal while still just 18, and last summer upgraded that to gold at the World Championships.
